Peter Schafer appointed diocesan director of evangelization and pastoral planning Print E-mail

Bishop George V. Murry, S.J.,  has appointed Peter Schafer director of  the diocesan Office of Evangelization and Pastoral Planning effective immediately.

Schafer succeeds Father Nicholas Shori, who died April 20 after a long battle with cancer.

HUBBARD – There were tears, hugs, shared memories, and a balloon launch, but mainly, it was a time of thanksgiving as St. Patrick School here observed its final Mass.

Father Michael Swierz, pastor of St. Patrick Parish, was the main celebrant for the June 3 Mass, attended by a large gathering of alumni, parents, and retired faculty and staff. Father John Michael Lavelle, a St. Patrick School alumnus, was the con-celebrant.

YOUNGSTOWN – Father Evaristi Miku could not conceal his excitement as he was given a monstrance to take back to his parish in Tanzania.

Father Miku, who is studying at Walsh University, said monstrances and other altar items are hard to come by in one of the world’s poorest countries.

LOUISVILLE – When he came in to St. Thomas Aquinas High School here in 2003, Father Thomas Dyer recalls, it was supposed to be temporary.

“I was pastor at St. Joan of Arc in Canton,” Father Dyer said, but the principal had left, so Bishop George V. Murry, S.J., asked him to step in as interim principal. Father Dyer had served at Aquinas previously and his parish was 20 minutes away.

YOUNGSTOWN – Recently at a special Mass, the diocese formally celebrated the beatification of a woman near to the hearts of a congregation of sisters here – and now to the entire diocese through the local miracle that helped bring about this important step on the way to sainthood.
