The movie “Field of Dreams,” starring Kevin Costner and James Earl Jones, once made famous the phrase, “If you build it, they will come.”

They were talking about putting a minor-league baseball field into the cornfields of Iowa. But the phrase came to mind recently when Youngstown officials were defending the city as a fine place to live despite a recent spate of apparently random and utterly senseless murders.
