The Diocese of Youngstown and the Northeastern Ohio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will sponsor a joint Ecumenical Evening Prayer commemorating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation at 6 p.m. Oct. 29 in St. Columba Cathedral.

Lutheran Bishop Abraham Allende and Bishop George V. Murry S.J., will lead this Evening Prayer for Christian unity, which will include Lutheran and Catholic vocalists and musicians from throughout the Lutheran Synod and the Youngstown Diocese. A reception will follow in the cathedral parish hall.

On Oct. 29, 2000, Bishop Thomas Tobin and Bishop Marcus Miller of the Lutheran Synod signed a covenant to pray, study, and act together for Christian unity. The bishops also established a Lutheran-Catholic Covenant Commission to foster implementation of the covenant.
